Pallotta Blasts Gottheimer Endorsement from Anti-Gun Special Interest Group

May 28, 2020

RAMSEY – Today, Frank Pallotta, Republican candidate for New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District, offered strong criticism of the radical, anti-Second Amendment group Everytown for Gun Safety’s endorsement of Democrat incumbent Josh Gottheimer:

“Once again, Josh Gottheimer is putting the approval and financial backing of D.C. special interest groups that shred the rights of law-abiding gun owners above the interests of his district. Josh’s pal Governor Phil Murphy recently admitted that he does not consider the Bill of Rights in his decision making, despite swearing an oath to the Constitution. Clearly, in accepting help from Michael Bloomberg’s group, Josh also feels that civil liberties are optional. Instead of focusing on commonsense solutions that would protect our schools, houses of worship, and sports and entertainment facilities, Josh sides with gun confiscators who have no regard for the Second Amendment or due process.”

Republican legislators across the Fifth District have repeatedly offered real solutions – not D.C. rhetoric – to address safety issues. Senator Steve Oroho and Assemblymen Parker Space and Hal Wirths, for example, first called for the fortification of classrooms from domestic terrorists and voters approved the funding for this initiative in 2018.  In 2020, Assemblymen Auth, Space, and Wirths also offered legislation that would prioritize domestic abuse victims’ access to lawful firearms. Instead of looking for D.C. cash, Josh Gottheimer should listen to his district, which strongly supports the Second Amendment, and local leaders with solutions that would make a real difference.
